dirt-calculator.com is a free dirt volume and cost calculator — six project shapes from garden rectangles to road-trench trapezoids, multi-area totals, eleven materials with real tons-per-yard densities, compaction buffers, truckload and bag counts, and a ZIP-based delivery estimate. This policy explains what information the site collects, what it deliberately never collects, and the few exceptions that make the site work.

The design principle is simple: the calculator can do its entire job on your device. Area dimensions, depths, material picks, the ZIP code you type for a delivery estimate — none of it is needed on a server to total cubic yards, so none of it is sent to one.

Information We Do Not Collect

The following are never required, never transmitted, and never stored on our side. They exist only in your browser tab for as long as the tab is open:

Area dimensions for any shape — lengths, widths, depths, diameters
Material selections and the densities you compared
Compaction buffer percentage and truck or bag size choices
The ZIP code entered for a regional delivery-fee estimate
Prices per cubic yard and any cost totals you computed
Your name, email, address, or any account identity — there are no accounts

Technical Data Collected Automatically

Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure processes standard technical information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, and request timestamps. This is a function of how the web works — servers need it to deliver pages and resist abuse.

This data is used for security (rate limiting, abuse detection), reliability (uptime monitoring), and aggregate statistics (which pages are visited). It is never combined with anything you entered into the calculator, because the calculator never tells the server what you entered.

Local Storage on Your Device

The site is served over HTTPS, and the hosting infrastructure applies standard security practices. No system is perfectly secure, but the practical exposure here is small by construction: the most sensitive thing on our servers is a page request.
